Unplugged

One of things that birthdays, transition or traumas bring to light is the awareness of overload. We live in a world where there is plenty to do, so little time and we often feel that its never enough. Too often we feel that we are not enough.

I recently had a birthday (hooray) and one thing I noticed is that I am not 20 anymore. My body doesn’t bounce back or handle what it could 10 plus years ago. The beautiful thing is, THAT’S OK!. I recall one of my friends saying, you are just in the prime of change. Its just the beginning. Wait until you are 50. He was telling me that change will occur but change does not mean think the worst. Change is not a death sentence.

Whether or not, you understand what is happening with your body or your mind, be reminded that you don’t have to journey alone. You don’t have to fight battles alone. You will drive yourself crazy trying to figure it all out. We are not designed to do so. God is.

I decided that instead of worrying or becoming Dr. Google that I would take some time to unplug. Well, God decided that for me. I recall on Monday preparing to log into scroll through Facebook when I felt the Holy Spirit stop me and say not today. There was a huge prayer challenge going on this particular week and I had decided to fast.  I opted for no coffee (which is harder than you think if you drink coffee daily) and no juice or sweets. God threw in no Social Media. Monday was easy but Tuesday was harder. I actually deleted the apps from my phone to hold me accountable. God needed me to unplug so that he could uplift.

My spirit had been broken. The hurt from things not going as planned, the stress of work, the waiting of prayers and the anxiety that life brings hit all at once. I was emotionally wrecked and because of this my spirit was weak too. I needed a Heavenly Hug. You know the type of Hug that completely covers you and protects you from the mean cruel world. I needed by Father. He knew this. He had hugs available for me but because I was so clouded and distracted I was missing Him.

So as any good Father, he stepped in. I spent that entire week off of Social Media, no coffee or sweets and no tv. I worked and prayed and worshipped after work and prayed more. I opened my life back up to God and he Hugged me.

I was able to see things clearly. Sure, some of the areas didn’t have immediate resolution but I have clear vision and peace. I was able to bring my cares to God from a place of assistance and not of desperation. God does not want us to wait until we are desperate to consult Him. He cares too much for us.

When you remove the distractions that the world brings, you aren’t missing out. Its actually the opposite. You gain freedom. You gain freedom from the world expectations to be perfect, to be the best, to be in perfect shape and excellent health. When you unplug, you find grace. The grace you must extend to yourself. Throughout that week, I cried my eyes and heart out to God. He met me right in the middle of my mess.

There is nothing too hard for God. Psalm 37: 4-5 says “ Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.

If you are feeling worried or anxious or you feel as though God is far from you, take a few days to unplug. Remove your go to response in stressful situation and replace it with quiet time with the Father. Watch how he responds. Our God is Faithful. He is Kind and His love is endless

Psalm 100: 5 For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
